The Sycamore Athletic Boosters Mission

The mission of the Sycamore Athletic Boosters is to raise money for a broad range of athletic programs at Sycamore Junior High & Sycamore High School.  We help fund shortfalls in School Board approved athletics and annually assist over 100 teams where coaches identify specific needs.  We strive to provide as many athletic opportunities as possible for our students by maintaining a large athletic program and by keeping our pay-to-play fees as low as possible.

Some recent donations from the Sycamore Athletic Boosters to Aves Sports:

• $850,000 for the “Always An Aviator” Campaign, to fund upgraded athletic facilities at the high school,
  • Original 5-Year Pledge at $50K per year (completed 3 payments through June 2023)
  • $85K for Stadium Ticket Booth
  • $15K for Swim Lane
  • Extended our pledge for another 10 years at $50K per year, $500k
• Various athletic equipment upgrades such as
  • Volleyball nets and poles
  • Mr. Aviator mascot costume
  • Backpacks for the cheerleading team
  • Windscreens for the turf field
  • Video equipment for football
  • Parkas for the water polo team
  • Helmets for the lacrosse team
  • High jump pit for the JH track team
  • Stopwatches for the swim team, and more
• Furnishing all equipment to outfit the new stadium concession stand
• State competition travel funding for JHS and HS players and coaches
• Support of Sycamore Jr High Athletics

Jim Walter Memorial

While many others preceded him on the Sycamore Athletic Boosters Board of Directors, Jim Walter set both the tone and the pace for today's level of volunteering and giving. While on the Board, there was not a committee or task he would say "No" to if asked. And after his children graduated from Sycamore High School, Jim continued voluntarily to do all the tax work for the Board until his untimely death. Jim was also the main force behind the fundraising for the Gregory Center. Few knew he was still so involved because that's the way Jim wanted it. He did not do volunteer work for himself - he did it for the kids. He set the standard for the rest of us to follow.

Jim was selfless in his giving of both time and money. He never had an agenda, he simply had a love for giving back to Sycamore because of what the school, teachers and coaches had given to his children. Jim loved SHS, and especially its athletic programs, and supported any efforts to make them better.

Jim's children and their respective families: Kevin ('96) and Stephanie, their children Austin and Avery, Jill ('98) and Bob, their children Brynn and Annabel, and Brian ('00), are proud to see their dad’s love of the Boosters continue year in and year out with the golf outing. 

Jill put it best when she said, "Dad was dedicated to Sycamore, and we are just following his lead."
